Karen McColl, author of Beauty of the Butte began freelance writing while living in the mountain town of Revelstoke, BC, squeezing in the odd feature or news story in between skiing, mountain biking and camping. Her passion is anything outdoors but she also loves writing about community events and cultural activities. Her move to Fort Simpson, NT, in the spring of 2010 gave her new inspiration for writing about the people and places of the north. Although the Northwest Territories stole her heart, Karen’s work with Parks Canada has temporarily taken her to Iqaluit, Nunavut. She misses trees, but is enjoying the adventure and figures that Yellowknife will feel like a tropical oasis after a winter spent on Baffin Island.
